I’m pretty big on avoiding people who aren’t authentic. I know people who are sunshine and blowing bubbles in fields of green, allergy-free grass every day, but you know there’s a hurricane in the area. When things don’t line up, I get annoyed that they’re not being honest with their friends.
Then I was faced with the brutal reality that I’ve been doing the same thing.
I’m sorry.
When I greet people now, I’m not going to ask them, “how are you doing?” or “how is your day?” Those questions are too easily dismissed with a formed-by-habit, “fine” and don’t connect us any closer, other than I was polite enough to ask about them. Instead, I’ll ask a more thought-provoking question.
What’s been the highlight of your day/week/month/year?”
We’re not alone on this journey. Let’s connect. So…
What’s been the highlight of your January? Is there anything I can do to improve your February? Talk to me in the comments. I won’t bite.

The highlight of my January was getting a client’s approval to migrate the current slow-ass site to WP Engine and let you do that for us. I love working with you! And I think the highlight of my February will be using the new fast site. Can’t wait!

Aww, that’s sweet of you to say. I’m sure one of my highlights will be seeing you on that new hosting. Go, WPE!

Easy one! Raising enough funds for CFCommunity 🙂 Combine that with the realisation that you’re on the right path work and career wise and you have an awesome start of the new year.
So what’s yours Jesse?

We had a rough month on a number of fronts in our household, but I think I can safely say my highlight was the accomplishment of adding 3x more storage to our laundry closet after the old single shelf fell down. Very rewarding. I think I’ll go walk over there and admire it again.

Highlight of my January was leaving my day job and pursuing my own web development business. No longer working for fake people anymore is very rewarding.

Congratulations!! Did you have people lined up to push you out the door? Shoot me a link to your site at @jpetersen and I’ll see if you’re a good match for small projects in an emergency that I can’t get to for a few days but need immediate attention.
grshane says
Yes, I did. Once I left that meeting, I knew it was time to leave.

Our January highlight was a one week vacation on mainland Honduras. We got to hang out with friends we really love, played with their kids, shopped, toured lots of historical places including the Mayan ruins in Copan, and unwound like we haven’t been able to unwind in ages.
